August 16th-20th   Monday-Rules and procedures of the class.               A supply list will be given.               Introduction to literary terms.               The quiz will be Tuesday, August 24th.              Students need to begin studying these terms.   Tuesday-  Lesson1-Videos introducing the Dust Bowl.               We will begin reading Out of the Dust, by Karen Hesse.                 Read the first part of Winter 1934 in Out of the Dust.              Examine the setting and become familiar with the novel and verse structure.             Students will complete the split note chart.   Wednesday-Lesson 2-Examine how the author begins to develop characters.               We will read the remainder of Winter of 1934 from Out of the Dust.               Examine closely for details about characters using an analysis chart and we will begin creating a reading log adding information discussed in class.   Thursday-lesson 3-Explore how the author builds meaning through the use of figurative language.                 Figurative Language vs. Literal                 Examine the poem to uncover meaning and theme.  (Theme will be explained using charts)                 Complete TP-CASTT.  This lesson will carry over into Friday. Friday-Complete diagnostic test on study island for 6th grade ELA-every Friday we will work on a skill to improve test scores using study island.            Complete Lesson 3:  Write a descriptive paragraph about a dust storm using two examples of figurative language.   Don't forget the quiz on Tuesday/  LITERARY TERMS.                Please have all supplies this week.
